Slovenian steel producer Slovenska Industrija Jekla (SIJ) resumed production at full capacity after suspending some of its activities due to the devastating floods that hit the country in the beginning of August, it said.
The group’s subsidiaries SIJ Metal Ravne and SIJ Ravne Systems, located in Carinthia, one of the regions worst affected by the natural disaster, have mitigated the flood damage and since August 16 operations have resumed across all their manufacturing facilities, the steel producer said in a statement on Monday.
The Meza river flooded part of SIJ Metal Ravne’s forging shop and SIJ Ravne Systems’ laboratories as a result of heavy rain on August 4 and 5, SIJ said.
The other two SIJ subsidiaries in Carinthia – SIJ ZIP center, and SIJ Storitve – escaped damage thanks to the intervention of firefighters, SIJ added.
Around 1,500 SIJ employees and their families live in the worst-hit areas. Those who sustained the most significant damage will receive between 2,500 euro ($2,730) and 10,000 euro in solidarity aid, the group said.
